Castelbuono: la città che i Ventimiglia hanno costruito.
The history of Castelbuono is inextricably linked to that of the Ventimiglia family. It is to this powerful Norman family that we owe the foundation of the castle and an extraordinary period of artistic and architectural patronage that has left its mark across the entire Madonie region.
Churches, palaces, monuments: a historical and artistic heritage of rare richness, which in 1632 received official recognition with the granting of the title of City and the designation of Castelbuono as the capital of the Principality.
The museum’s Urban Planning section traces this evolution through illustrative panels and architectural drawings: a visual journey that tells the story of how a medieval watchtower was transformed, over the centuries, into a town with a distinct urban, political and cultural identity.
