For 100 years, the Ventimiglia Castle has been a public asset!

On 10 April 1920, an auction was held at which the Ventimiglia Castle was ‘purchased’ by the citizens of Castelbuono, thanks to a public fundraising campaign. On the 100th anniversary of the auction, the Civic Museum wishes to celebrate the great value that a community has demonstrated in caring for an extraordinary cultural asset returned to public use, by sharing an excerpt from Prof. Orazio Cancila’s forthcoming publication dedicated to the history of Castelbuono. We believe that the ‘public good’ remains, even today, a founding ideal of every responsible and supportive community.
