The Civic Museum of Castelbuono offers a programme of educational pathways for primary and lower secondary schools, designed to bring children and young people closer to the historical, artistic and cultural heritage of the area through engaging, inclusive and participatory experiences tailored specifically for school classes and groups of young visitors.
These activities transform a museum visit into an opportunity for active discovery: workshops centred on exploration and observation, play, research and creativity, carefully adapted to the age of participants and the learning objectives of each class.
The pathways allow students to explore the Museum from multiple perspectives: the language of images, the symbols of sacred art, dialogue with contemporary art, and the relationship between cultural heritage and the contemporary city. Each experience fosters curiosity, observational skills, collaboration and critical thinking.
They are designed as shared experiences: participation in discovery through group activities, guided and facilitated by teachers and accompanying adults, while encouraging moments of creativity and peer-to-peer exchange—supporting learning, stimulating curiosity and building a participatory museum experience.
The four pathways:
The Chapel Code
An exploratory activity in the Palatine Chapel of Saint Anne, among putti, symbols, fantastical creatures and hidden details. Through an engaging treasure hunt, students uncover the meaning of the decorations and interpret the chapel as a great narrative carved into space.
The Mystery of the Relic
A pathway dedicated to the Sacred Art section, featuring reliquaries, silverwork, ex voto offerings and objects of popular devotion. Pupils investigate the forms, materials and meanings of sacred objects, gaining insight into the deep connection between the community of Castelbuono and Saint Anne.
Contemporary Art Detectives
An interactive experience among the works in the museum’s contemporary collection. Participants observe, interpret and discuss artworks like true art detectives, learning that contemporary art does not demand immediate answers, but invites questions.
Design the City: Castelbuono 2050
A workshop focused on the relationship between the museum, the local area and the future. Starting from the collections and exhibition spaces, students are invited to imagine the Castelbuono of tomorrow, developing ideas for public spaces, the environment and community life.
