– Focusing on the relationship between museums and communities, the Civic Museum of Castelbuono presents the scientific research by Dr Vincenzo Vignieri, a business economist at the University of Palermo, entitled ‘Leveraging Collaborative Governance: How Co-production Contributes to Outcomes and Public Value in a Small Town’, published in the volume ‘Enabling Collaborative Governance through Systems Modelling Methods: Public Policy Design and Implementation’ (2020, Zurich: Springer). The study forms part of the scientific contribution linked to the 1920 Auction project, through which the citizens of Castelbuono purchased the Ventimiglia Castle via a public fundraising campaign, the centenary of which is being marked. The author, a specialist in public management, has conducted an in-depth study on how museums in small towns can enhance the transfer of value for the benefit of the community through the co-production of public services. The work, available on the Springer website, specifically discusses the case study of the ‘Museo Civico di Castelbuono’, with a particular focus on the processes of engagement and active participation of external stakeholders in the management of museum services. The study demonstrates the contribution that collaborative governance can make to value creation in small towns, highlighting how the co-production strategy is an effective lever for improving the performance of cultural institutions and community development processes. The author of the scientific research is Dr Vincenzo Vignieri, Adjunct Professor of Business Economics and Postdoctoral Researcher in Public and Private Management at the Department of Political Science and International Relations (DEMS), University of Palermo.
